Fruit of NaPoWriMo

So I never created digests of my work during NaPoWriMo. I should know better than to broadcast my plans; doing so always jinxes them.

Regardless, that turned out to be a productive endeavor even if I didn’t do it every day. Not only did I generate a lot of content and write some starters that I’ve polished into presentable work, but that whole challenge was a major growth spurt for me as a writer of the form. I now have a much easier time getting an idea down in verse. The exercise of writing off a prompt first thing in the morning instead of my usual morning pages made a huge difference.

This Friday, I’m posting one of the pieces I wrote during the challenge. (I know I just said I shouldn’t broadcast my plans, but I’ve already scheduled the post.) The prompt was from Day 7 and I’m publishing the final draft here because I don’t know where to find a market for it. Otherwise my strategy is to submit to periodicals for print or online distribution. Guess I’m naive like that.

Below is some free-writing I did to warm up for the first draft.

Tarot card of the day is the Ace of Cups. Look it up.
Today’s poetry prompt is to write a love poem to an inanimate object.

What do I love? Lots of things. What am I in love with? The approach of spring.
Isn’t that blown in on the western wind? Brought to us by Zephyrus.

Anyway. Love poem. For music? My piano? What form should it be in?

I think the prompt meant inanimate thing and not abstract concepts like the coming spring.

And yet the subject of the poem I’m posting Friday is kind of abstract and definitely – in my opinion – a living thing.
